Her name means "home and hearth": the household and its inhabitants. Hestia symbolizes the alliance between the colonies and their mother-cities and is the oldest daughter of Rhea and Cronus, sister to Zeus, Hera, Hades, Poseidon, and Demeter. Originally listed as one of the Twelve Olympians, Hestia was later removed in favour of Dionysus. Afterwards, she tended the sacred fire on Mt. Olympus. Her altars included every family hearth.

Still high up on the mountaintop does not equate to lack of knowledge of the mortal realm. Studying various cultures that have arisen via my own powers and the lovely thing they call an Internet, I keep up with what is going on around me. Why yes, I do still have my godly clout, I am just not one of the twelve anymore.

I let Dionysos have that honor in exchange for being immune to love’s power (any form that requires sex to be blunt * so noted to the randier gods*) or ever having to marry. That does not mean I do not hold familial love and Agape in high esteem.

You know, back in the day, a Vestal Virgin would be in deep trouble should she forget her vow of chastity. Between you and me, it was never about the abstinence, it was more about them keeping a vow made to me. I could go on, but I will reserve the feminist rant for another entry.
